Things To Do

Enjoy walks in the summer sun and frosty autumnal mornings, a bite to eat in cosy pubs and cafes or casual dining into the evening.

Uppermill and Saddleworth offer a wealth of things to do.

Located on the edge of the Peak District National Park there is ample countryside on offer. Walks and trails are plentiful ranging from fairly flat leisurely strolls along the canal where you can stop off at different cafes along the way or more challenging hill and moorland walks.

A short steep walk will take you to Pots and Pans War Memorial and Alderman which provides excellent views across Dovestone reservoir, the Chew Valley and Saddleworth Moor.

Dovestone Reservoir offers a circular, accessible path whilst providing outstanding scenery – keep a look out for local wildlife including deer.

For those more adventurous the edge path located high up above the reservoirs offers views across the moors and over to Manchester on clear days.

Cycling and mountain biking are also great options again with a wide selection of routes and trails catering for all levels of adventurous spirit.

Small boat trips are also offered from the canal side in Uppermill. And for the keen anglers fishing is permitted along the canal, however a rod licence would be required.

Learn about local history at Saddleworth Museum located next to the canal in Uppermill or take a dip at the swimming pool at the local leisure centre all walking distance from Hillcrest Holiday Homes.

There are plenty of places to eat out ranging from traditional pub food at inns dating back hundreds of years to fine dining with a variety of cuisines on offer including Italian, seafood and modern British amongst an abundance of cafes to choose from.

Uppermill high street also offers a varied selection of independent shops including books, clothing boutiques and gifts.

Hillcrest Holiday Homes are perfectly located with everything you need just a few minutes walk from the chalets, you definitely won’t need the car. And if you want to explore the surrounding villages of Saddleworth, local buses provide a service if you prefer to leave the car behind.

For more information on things to do in Uppermill and the surrounding area you can visit or contact the Saddleworth Museum based in Uppermill village.
